I have always loved Photography, while studying Fine Art, I was able to develop my skills, and have never stopped. Nature has always been my muse, and when I took up diving I was at last in my element.
As a technology teacher, a designer, teaching computing and engineering, the next step as faculty head was to develop a whole-school curriculum, a focus for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. We created immersive learning pathways for students, opened up as many opportunities as possible for students to experience and develop skills in STEM subjects.
As a way of opening up opportunities for our students we started teaching Robotics and Engineering, both within the curriculum and as extracurricular clubs. Small scale at the out set, it became a massive club and was a major draw for students, more importantly with its success, recruitment from primary schools in the area increased dramatically, making the Academy a first pick for students wanting a real STEM education.
It is still a mystery to me why all schools are not actively teaching robotics as part of the curriculum, it fits so many areas, from computing, design technology and of course engineering. As the then Head of Faculty for Design, Technology and Engineering, we set up and developed a very strong and successful robotics program. Our students repeatedly showed that they could compete with at the national level and competed successfully internationally as well.
Opening up immersive learning pathways for my students, developing as many opportunities as possible for students to experience and apply their skills in STEM. We partnered with other schools in the community, and our students became ambassadors and mentors for STEM excellence in the community.
